Employee Benefits Strategies
Course Number: 53

PHR/GPHR/SPHR Notes:

The administration of employee benefits programs has become a complicated task. (1) Organizations must integrate various benefits programs, including: group life insurance, long-term and short-term disability insurance, health care insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, Workers’ Compensation, and retirement plans. (2) They must maintain competitive levels of benefits while controlling cost. (3) They must satisfy IRS discrimination tests and file required reports with the U.S. Department of Labor and other agencies, tracking COBRA and other claimants.

At the same time, the Internet is being introduced as the logical means by which communication and administration of benefits can be efficiently achieved. All of this is occurring within the evolution of the workplace, where service jobs are replacing manufacturing jobs and working from home is replacing long commutes. Employees hang on the edge between legal employment and contract staffing, with the consequent implications for participation and eligibility.

This course is designed to increase the business professional’s knowledge of benefits in this unique era of change. It lays the groundwork to help you better serve your client organizations by guiding them to cost-savings solutions that allow them to remain competitive while maintaining legal compliance.
