Job Description Software

ERI's Occupational Assessor (eDOT)® is an up-to-date software database of job descriptions and job titles. This interactive software uses the same construct as the Department of Labor's Dictionary of Occupational Titles (now out of print), but enhances the old Dictionary of Occupational Titles by:

  • updating more than 20,000 job descriptions

  • including 99 worker characteristics, including physical, cognitive, temperaments, and more

  • adding filters that let you find alternate positions for individuals based on their interests, skills, and physical abilities

The Occupational Assessor gives you access to more than 9,000 position descriptions for 20,000 job titles.

This job description software is designed for use by Human Resources Management (HRM), disability carriers, Workers' Compensation professionals, vocational experts, career counselors, rehabilitation specialists, administrative law judges, lawyers, and compensation professionals.

Job Analysis and HRM

The Occupational Assessor includes filters that enable you to find alternate work for individuals.

Here's how: First input the person's prior jobs, education, interests, and physical/mental abilities. This includes ability to handle stress and perform manual labor such as lifting/carrying or standing for prolonged periods of time. Based on your inputs, the Occupational Assessor will provide an alternate jobs list. In addition, this job analysis software will present job availability statistics for positions in selected geographic areas. That way you'll know if viable employment actually exists for the individual. If so, the Occupational Assessor will provide you with a list of potential employers, including contact names, addresses, and telephone numbers.

This makes the Occupational Assessor an unparalleled aid for those involved in outplacement, disability cases, or vocational rehabilitation.

Sample Job Descriptions

All of this is possible because the Occupational Assessor accesses the Internet while it runs on your PC. This allows it to continually receive data updates based on the input of PAQ Services trained job analysts, who score real-world positions via PAQ's online job analysis questionnaire. Data from these job analyses is incorporated quarterly into the Occupational Assessor, which you can purchase a calendar-year subscription for to by clicking here. As a subscriber, you'll receive quarterly updates by mailed CD-ROM or Internet download.

Prior to ordering, you may wish to download a demo version of this job description software from the bottom of this page, to view sample job descriptions and job titles.

Customized Job Analysis

Once you install the Occupational Assessor software on your computer, you can perform job analyses with any of the following eDOT editions.

  • Custom: Perform company-specific job analyses to assign accurate job descriptions and job titles based on your organization's unique employees and positions. This edition lets you use unlimited filter combinations.

  • Career Interest: Useful for career counselors and HR professionals involved with career development or outplacement, this edition helps you find jobs for employees based on their personal interests.

  • FLSA Overtime: This edition lets you analyze positions based on new federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regulations for exempt and nonexempt employees. Use it to determine the FLSA exempt status of difficult-to-classify employees in your company. Print out a report for each employee's file to provide documentation of your organization's exempt and nonexempt decisions.

  • Workers' Compensation: Lets you fill out state Workers' Compensation claim forms and establish disability ratings. The Workers' Comp edition varies based on the state/province selected, as each have their own Workers' Comp forms preprogrammed within this software.

  • Administrative Law: Designed for use in the Social Security disability benefits determination process, this edition helps you find out whether any occupational opportunities exist for a disabled individual.

  • Transferable Skills: Provides positions for individuals based on their past work history and any physical, cognitive, or emotional limitations.

  • Vocational Rehab: This edition produces a list of alternate jobs based upon an individual's residual functional capacity (RFC).

  • Archive DOT: Provides the U.S. government's original Dictionary of Occupational Titles job titles, job descriptions, and worker characteristics in an easy-to-search format. This data is non-copyrighted and free to the general public.
