Employment Law

Read United States and Canadian employer laws that apply to compensation and benefits administration in the U.S. and Canada. These HR regulations deal with equal pay, affirmative action, prevailing wages, immigrant employees, retirement funds, cafeteria plans, and more. This resource of HR codes and employment regulations supplements ERI Distance Learning Center online courses. This page also provides a link to useful international employment references, including: country profiles, cost-of-living data, language data, weather and climate information, exchange rates, capital cities, hardship and danger allowance pay, and international schools.

Salary Survey Software

ERI's Salary Assessor® survey software provides consensus salary data for over 5,000 position titles in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Using this salary survey database, you can make an unlimited number of salary comparison reports in-house. You’ll personalize these reports with your organization’s data by inputting the position title of the employee, plus your organization’s location, industry, size in revenue, and salary planning date. Then you’ll instantly receive base salary, bonus, and total compensation composite survey data for this job. Additional features include a lost wages calculator and a benchmark comparison screen that calculates compa-ratios, comparing your organization’s actual pay for benchmark positions against what the competitive labor market pays. Branch Office Survey Software

Using ERI's Geographic Assessor® software you can quickly make international salary and cost-of-living comparisons based upon your organization's headquarters and branch office locations. This product is useful for determining geographic salary differentials for setting branch office salary structures, or for selecting locations for new facilities and office relocations. To do so, choose a base city and destination city. Then input a base earnings level. This software lets you compare the two locations to see how they differ in terms of average pay and cost of living. For example, a company headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts would experience a lower cost of labor in Austin, Texas. For an employee group earning $74,000 per year in Boston, this survey software shows that the Austin salary rate is 22% lower, and the cost of living is 30% lower. Additional features include prevailing wage data for immigration H-1B visas and U.S. Census employment data for affirmative action reports. Cost of Living Comparison Software

ERI's Relocation Assessor® cost-of-living calculator lets you make unlimited in-house cost-of-living reports for planning employee relocation allowances. To use this cost of living calculator software, simply input an employee's current location, earnings level, family size, and spending patterns (e.g. home ownership/rental, number of cars). Then select the new job's location from over 10,000 cities worldwide. This cost-of-living calculator will give you the employee's overall difference in living costs in the new location, including a break-down of costs by category: housing, taxes, health care, consumables, transportation, etc. In addition, you can review per diem rates for food and lodging for setting temporary relocation allowances. This software also lets you compare rent vs. home-ownership scenarios, allowing you to model mortgage payments based on current interest rates. Data is presented in the currency of your choice, and you can adjust the home country residency of the employee for tax equalization calculations. A comparison list screen lets you make cost-of-living comparisons for 5 earnings levels in up to 99 cities at one time. Researching cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) amounts for multiple locations is a time-consuming process. Now you have the answers at your fingertips with ERI’s Relocation Assessor cost-of-living calculator. To download a free demo of this compensation software, click here.

Executive Compensation Survey Software

ERI's Executive Compensation Assessor® survey software reports competitive base salaries, bonuses, incentives, and total compensation for more than 500 top management position titles. You can adjust this data for your organization's geographic area, industry, size in revenue, and salary planning date. To do so, input the position in question (for example, Chief Financial Officer). Then select your organization's location in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom. Next input your organization's industry, annual revenue, and the salary planning date. This executive compensation software will instantly calculate competitive labor market pay levels for the executive employee based on composite results of thousands of executive compensation surveys and proxy reports. Additional features let you review maximum reasonable compensation estimates and raw data for comparable companies from their actual proxies, 10-Ks, and Form 990s. Job Description Software

This job analysis software provides 9,000+ position descriptions for 20,000+ position titles. Using the same construct as the Department of Labor's Dictionary of Occupational Titles (now out of print), this job description software has added new job titles, updated job descriptions, and 99 worker characteristics (including physical, cognitive, temperaments, and more). This job analysis software also includes filters to help you find alternate positions for individuals based on their interests, skills, and physical or mental abilities. Based on your inputs, the Occupational Assessor (eDOT®) will provide an alternate jobs list that includes job availability statistics for positions in selected geographic areas. That way you'll know if viable employment actually exists for the individual. If so, the Occupational Assessor will provide you with a list of potential employers, including contact names, addresses, and telephone numbers. This makes this job analysis software an unparalleled aid for those involved in career development, Human Resources planning, outplacement, disability case administration, or vocational rehabilitation.
